At peak times there were so many people that it was difficult to find a place to stand let alone sit. When I left class late however the buses were semi empty and I could choose exactly where to sit. I almost always went to sit in the back rows from which it was easy to observe everything that was happening on the vehicle. In particular I remember that. I was intrigued by the way the people who went up behaved. it. Everyone tried to sit as far away as possible from the passengers already on the bus and once they had taken their seats they were quick to put their bags Liechtenstein Email List on the seat next to them to make sure that no one sat there. What do you tell me have you ever done it Yes And have you ever tried to think why we behave like this Maybe because we are asocial beings Absolutely not. user iconWe behave this way because to feel comfortable we need living space in public and in private. When we are among others it is as if we constantly live inside a bubble the so called proxemic egg that makes us feel protected. All situations that threaten to invade it trigger a sort of biological alarm causing us discomfort and anxiety. That s why when we sit on the bus we hope that no one sits next to us. Not because we are selfish and asocial beings but because a stranger is invading our proxemic space. But what is proxemics in concrete terms I ll explain it to you right away.
